The Faculty of Education for Girls at the University of Kufa held a panel discussion entitled (Using xrf technology to assess trace elements in the blood of people with thyroid disorders).
M. M. Shereen Nazim Kazem from the Department of Physics measured the concentrations of trace elements (Fe, Cu, Zn, Ni, Cu/Zn) and thyroid hormones for people with thyroid disorders and compared them with healthy donors.
It concluded that the levels of (copper and iron) and the ratio of (copper – zinc) were lower for infected people compared to healthy donors without any statistically significant differences for (iron and copper). As for the levels of the ratio (copper: zinc), statistically significant results were found between the two groups.
The researcher recommended the adoption of the xrf technique for the elements mentioned in the study, with the necessity of adopting another technique for other elements such as calcium, selenium and mercury.
