Prof. Dr. (Saad Aziz Heswa), a member of the teaching staff in the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Education for Girls / University of Kufa, obtained a joint patent with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the General Company for Southern Cement and the University of Al-Qadisiyah from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, entitled (Design of a system for thermal cracking prepared for heavy fuel oil for cement plants).
Hiswa said that the aim of the invention is to conduct the catalytic thermal cracking process for heavy fuel, which is used in large quantities in the operation of cement factory furnaces, whether at the local or global level, by using a new nano-catalyst prepared from a clay mixed with some metallic oxides.
Adding that the achieved economic return lies in the fact that the use of this type of catalysts is to reduce the thermal cracking conditions with an increase in the selectivity of the oil products resulting from the cracking process, such as (gasoline, gasoline, and kerosene). Also, the same catalyst can be reused three times and get the same results while maintaining Its effectiveness too.
